Various medical emergency services attended an accident scene where four trucks and four light motor vehicles collided

Multiple people have been injured in a serious multiple-vehicle accident on the N3 near Mariannhill Toll Plaza just after 12:00 on Saturday afternoon.

This has led to the N3 Highway being closed while Emergency Personnel work on the recovery.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said they arrived together with multiple other emergency services on the scene to find total carnage.

“Four trucks and four light motor vehicles have collided on the highway. Immediately, more ambulances, as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics, were dispatched to the scene. One truck driver sustained serious injuries and was severely entrapped in his vehicle.

Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the vehicle while the Ethekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to try and free the man from the wreckage.

“Once freed, the man was transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that he required.

Multiple others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment,” he said.

At this stage, the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
