SUSPECT NABBED IN POSSESSION OF AN HIJACKED MOTOR VEHICLE AND AN ILLEGAL FIREARM
A 34-year-old male suspect was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and an unlicensed firearm in Emndeni, Soweto.
On Thursday, 15 December 2022, officers received information from Rentrak Vehicle Recovery Services of a hijacked motor vehicle. Further information indicated where the vehicle was travelling.
The officers responded and spotted the hijacked Ford Bantum driving along Xuma Street in Emndeni. Officers activated blue lights and sirens to stop the hijacked vehicle.
The suspects stopped, alighted from the vehicle and ran on foot. Officers gave chase and managed to apprehend one suspect. When searching the suspect, an unlicensed firearm and the victim's cellphone were found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Naledi SAPS. The hijacked vehicle was seized and booked at the SAPS Lenasia pound for further verification.
