Police recover a stolen Toyota Fortuner and Etios in Musina

The Vhembe District Cross-Border Task Team together with Limpopo Highway Patrol team (LHP) have apprehended five suspects aged between 34 and 42 for being in possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, Toyota Fortuner which was reported stolen at Garsfontein police station in Pretoria on Saturday, 21 May 2022, at about 11:00.

The Police were on patrol duties next to the Baobab tollgate along the N1 road towards Musina when, at about 21h30, in the evening of, they spotted a white Toyota Fortuner motor vehicle driving very recklessly and at a high speed. The members gave chase and the said vehicle was pulled over before entering the Musina town. It was searched and Police noticed that most of the inner panels in the vehicle were stripped off and missing and the occupants could not provide satisfactory explanation.

A further probe led to the positive identification of the owner of the vehicle who reported that his vehicle was stolen. Two suspects were immediately arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle which is valued at R600-000 was confiscated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects were supposed to receive R3000-00 in cash for delivering the Toyota Fortuner at one of the Hotels in Musina.

A snap operation was immediately executed and the members proceeded to the said hotel and on arrival, they managed to arrest additional three suspects who were sitting in a red Toyota Etios. The vehicle was also searched and Police found the stripped panels of the stolen Toyota Fortuner and two copies of Identity Document of the owner.
