A statement released by the ANC Nkangala Region dated 12 November 2021:
"ANC condemns hijacking of Cde Speedy Mashilo.
The African National Congress (ANC) in Nkangala Region condemns in the strongest possible terms the hijacking and kidnapping of the Regional Chairperson, Cde Speedy Mashilo yesterday, 11 November 2021.
The incident took place at about 13h00 at Hokai (between Ekangala and KwaMhlanga). The Regional Chairperson was driving to Suncity, KwaMhlanga and when he passed Hokai was overtaken by unknown vehicle. Guns were pointed at him and he was forced to stop. He was then forced into his own car and they sped off.
The hijackers then drove to East Rand with him before dropping him off near Olifantsfontein at around 20h00. No injuries were sustained and his double cab Toyota has since not been recovered.
They took the Laptop, bank cards wallet, money, cellphone and everything inside the car. The incident has been reported to the Olifantsfontein Police Station in Clayville.
We appeal to members of the public who may have information on the incident or may have spotted the registration number to report the matter to the police.
