The Mpumalanga police are hunting for a gang that robbed Acornhoek Mall early this morning.The mall was robbed early this morning around 2am,when gunshots were heard by the locals this morning.It is allegedly that the this gang bombed two ATMs and also gained entrance to other shops and looted them.It is believed that luxury shops and liquor stores were targeted by this robbers.
Police at Acornhoek have launched a massive manhunt for the suspects.
Reports indicate that members of the police received information from security officers alerting them of a break-in at the said mall. It was also revealed that a group of suspects were busy looting items at the shops. Police officials indicated that on their way to the scene they heard gunshots coming from different directions and called for backup. Upon arrival at scene, they found that the suspects had fled.
About 15 shops were affected by this robbery incident and preliminary investigation suggests that the suspects gained entry through breaking a door and thereafter helped themselves with various items at the shops. The suspects also reportedly detonated certain explosives to have access to cash at the safes as well as ATM's. The suspects then fled the scene with the stolen items, including an undisclosed amount of cash.
